My Little is 10 years old. She lived in Russia for about 8 years before she moved her to the US. The rest of her family, like her grandparents, aunts and uncles, live in New York. Because she didn't know english very well when she got her, they put her in second grade to learn more about it. According to the age of average kids in her grade she is 2 years older then everyone in her grade. She had a hard time with that. Also she is the only girl in a family where she has 2 brothers. She just really needed someone who could basically be a sister type to her. Someone she could play with. We hit it off right when we met each other and we have been getting closer and closer ever since. She is amazing and i love her.

When I first went to meet my little, I was nervous and didn’t quite know what to expect. It turns out that my little who is in the 1st grade, is one of the sweetest and funniest kids I have ever met in my life. She always is full of energy and excitement, and we’ve never had a dull moment together. She always brightens my day, and has helped me to be optimistic and has taught me to have patience. Since the first day we met, we have grown so close, her reading and writing skills have improved, and she seems to have matured so much. It has been really exciting to watch her grow more and more every day. Every time I see her she runs up to me and gives me a big hug and tells everyone she meets that I am her big sister. Being a big is one of the best experiences I’ve had, and I am so glad to be a part of this organization. Not only do I feel like I have made a difference in the life of a child, but I have learned and grown so much during the few months Summer and I have spent together.

umm ok so, my little is a 6th grader and we have a lot in common. The coolest thing about my little is that she really opens up to me and is willing to talk to me about things that most young children would be scared to talk about. She shares everything about her family and how she spends time equally with her mom and her dad. It's really cool to be able to listen to someone who really wants to open up!

When I first met my Little Sister, she was somewhat shy and didn't have very many friends in her class. She had just moved to Texas from Virginia and I immediately knew that she and I had something in common because I knew what it felt like to be the new kid. She and I got to talking, and Kimberly turned out to be a very energetic and enthusiastic girl. She and I talk without a problem now and we can even laugh together when I go see her. We're both equally excited for our visiting times and we love being sisters! Being a Big is so great!!

My little was very excited to see me at the beginning. She was kind of shy at first but immediatley was comfortable with me. She was happy because she lives with a house full of boys and all her neighbors down the street are either younger then her or are boys. She doesn't have an older sibling, and neither do I. I know that if I would have had an older sibling I could have someone to look up to I would have been more prepared for what high school was bringing me. I know for a fact that she is ecstatic to have someone to look up to and talk to about anything. Thus, I try to be a great role model for my little and to help her out whenever she needs help. I love Big Brothers/Big Sisters!!

My Little Brother used to be really mean. He was a discipline problem in class. He did not have many friends that were good influences on him. He didn't do well in school and was unmotivated. Normally when I am working with someone who is unmotivated I tend to be unmotivated. I decided to give my Little Brother a chance and work with him. He opened up to me and I learned why he was so adverse to school. He began being more nice to the students in his class and he made some new friends. He still needs to do better in school, but there is always more time for that.

My Little Brother was always getting in fights and was never getting along with anyone. After being with him for only a week the counselor came to me and told me that he was doing alot better. She told me he was coming to the office a lot less. I was really proud of my little and told him how proud I was. Another story was when I went in one day, another Big was absent so I offered to have his little hang out with us for the day. My Little agreed and treated this other younger little with compassion. He normally would expect all of my attention but that day he didn't. He helped the other little out a lot. He played games with him and drew tons of pictures.
